Juventus open to offers for former Arsenal star and Tottenham Hotspur target Wojciech Szczesny
Wojciech Szczesny, who was formerly at Arsenal and currently plays for Juventus, has emerged as an option for Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.
This is according to Italian outlet Calciomercato.com, who claim that the Poland international could be sold by Juve if they receive a suitable offer. This is despite his quality performances this season.
Szczesny has undoubtedly been one of their best players in a tumultuous season. Yet, with his age (33) and a contract that expires at the end of next season, there could be a realisation on their part that he isn’t going to last at Juve forever.
He has been stunning for them ever since joining them from Arsenal in the summer of 2017. Barely anyone would have backed him to become Juve’s undisputed No. 1 for so many seasons when he left the Gunners.
Not a smart move for Spurs
His reputation in the Premier League with Arsenal wasn’t that great. But now, he is widely regarded as one of the finest goalkeepers in the league.
For Spurs, this move would hardly make sense. The Pole isn’t much younger than Hugo Lloris (36), who needs urgent replacing after a season marked with injuries and errors. He is ageing and is evidently on the decline.
Fraser Forster, 35, neither has age on his side and neither the world-class quality needed to be a No. 1 here. Let’s not make any mistake here – the Juventus goalkeeper is world-class and barely has a chink in his armour.
But his age should steer Tottenham clear of this move. What we need is a goalkeeper in his 20s who has enough experience at the top level and has many years still ahead of him – kind of like Lloris himself when we signed him from Olympique Lyonnais more than a decade ago.

He wouldn’t be bad as a No. 12 here, though. But it seems hard to convince him of that role right now, when he still clearly has a lot to offer at the top level.
