LEWISTOWN — Students at Mifflin County Junior High School dressed to the nines, sang and danced at their spring formal — called the Spring Fling — just like any prom-like occasion Saturday. They even crowned a king and queen.
But the real winner was the Mifflin County 4-H, the beneficiaries of a $934.96 donation from a unique fundraiser held by the eighth- and ninth-grade students.
“This year’s winners were decided a little differently,” said Adrienne (Hicks) Witters, a paraprofessional at Mifflin County Junior High School. “After the junior high students voted for their court, the elected court members were asked to pick a charity to represent. Donations were accepted during lunches from April 24 to April 28.”
Every penny equaled one vote. The eighth-grade boy and girl who raised the money were named the Spring Fling prince and princess. Crowned were Wyatt Parkes and Abigail Baumgardner.
The ninth-grade boy and girl who raised the most were named the Spring Fling king and queen. All hail, Adan Daubert and Regan Reed.
“The charity receiving the most money received all the money collected,” Witters added. “A total of $934.96 was collected, and all the money will be going to the Mifflin County 4-H. This charity was represented by Regan Reed.”
Baumgardner’s eighth-grade court included: Sophie Albert, Savannah Bonson, Aubree Dobson, Hannah Johnson and Layla Osman.
Parkes’ court included: Angel Cabrera, Wyatt Kauffman, Nate Lindley, Kole Strawser and Camryn Treaster.
Reed’s ninth-grade court was: Aniston Byler, Addie Fultz, Adin Reese and Bailey Wyland.
Daubert’s court had: Truitt Davis, Chase Leister, Blaze Shreffler and Eli Small.
