After years of wandering around the league, Jeff Green has finally found the warming conclusion that the Mile High City is his basketball home.
Green, who will become a free-agent this upcoming offseason, told Chris Tomasson of the Denver Gazette that he is planning to finish his career as a member of the Denver Nuggets.
“I’m finishing my career here, if I can,’’ said Green. “I want to just play two more years and, if my wife lets me play three, cool. But my goal is to play two more years and be a Nugget for those two years.”
Green has been in Denver since last season, and his respected veteran role continues to serve as an important ingredient on the team’s current success which has been reaping high praise from head coach Michael Malone.
Throughout the course of his 15-year career, Green managed to suit up 12 different team jerseys. His journeyman identity in the league can’t even be more evident from the fact that he also managed to play and start his career as a member of the Seattle SuperSonics. Only him and his close friend in Kevin Durant are the only active players left who represented the Emerald City in their career.
His Nuggets teammate and fellow vet Ish Smith currently holds the NBA record for most teams played at 13. As such, he jokes that he is planning to surpass it.
“I tell (Ish Smith) that I’m going to break his record,’’ Green said with a laugh. “We have fun with it because we’re guys who have been through this situation, who have been through the grind of adapting to every given situation and maintained the longevity. That’s something that we’re proud of.”
“I’m not breaking it,’’ he quickly noted. “It was a joke.”
Green and the Nuggets will look to get closer on attaining their ultimate title dream as Game 2 of the 2023 NBA Finals is set on Sunday.
