Prematurely born Daniel Thomas Wright spent most of his life in hospital.
Eleven days after being brought home, the eight-month-old was found dead in his cot.
An inquest into Daniel’s death is set to be held next year, the Coroners Court sitting in Brisbane has been told.
Daniel was born on July 28, 2018 at 24 weeks’ gestation following a complicated pregnancy, counsel assisting Claire Grant said on Thursday.
He was immediately cared for at Townsville University Hospital before being transferred to the Mackay Base Hospital on February 6, 2019.
The transfer was at the request of Daniel’s parents so the baby could be closer to their Bowen home.
He was discharged on March 19, but was found dead in his cot 11 days later while both parents were at home.
Ms Grant said issues to be considered during the inquest included the clinical condition of and care required by Daniel in the hospitals, and whether his transfer and discharge were appropriate.
Coroner Stephanie Gallagher is also due to examine the care by the baby’s parents and the support given to them and actions of the Department of Children, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs in relation to Daniel.
A further pre-inquest is expected to be held on a date yet to be decided before a hearing likely to be in February in Bowen.
