St Ursula’s College in Yeppoon was thrilled to host 50 industry representatives at its annual Communication to Careers (C2C) event for Year 10 students recently.
With 50 representatives from 30 businesses and organisations present, St Ursula’s students were introduced to a variety of career pathways during two-minute speed conversations.
First time attendees, Rochelle Pimperon and Emily Seeds from Quality Veterinary Care Centre, said C2C was a great opportunity to share information and experiences with the students.
“We thoroughly enjoyed speaking with the Year 10 students about their own career journeys,” Ms Pimperon said.
“It was an amazing experience and a fabulous event; the students were very interested in hearing about Veterinary career experiences,” Ms Seeds said.
“We encourage all students to consider a career in Veterinary Medicine; we could talk about it all day.
“We’re looking forward to attending C2C next year.”
Likewise, Community Solutions Customer Experience Coordinator Sheree Smith said the team from Community Solutions recently had a wonderful day at the C2C event where they engaged with year 10 students about career opportunities and career pathways.
“Tuilah and I had the opportunity to speak with the students about Disability Employment Services, what each of our roles are within the business, how we assist customers into achieving meaningful employment, how we came to be in the industry, what qualifications or experience was required and what we found most rewarding about our roles,” Ms Smith said.
“St Ursula’s College staff said the real-life examples resonated with students and provided them with valuable takeaways they can implement in their own career journeys.
“They also expressed how genuinely grateful they were for the support and how it played a significant role in creating an engaging and enriching experience for all the students.
“The students greatly appreciated the exhibitor’s participation which also made the event a resounding success.
“One student said it was an eye-opening event and she didn’t realise there can be multiple careers under the one business banner.
“We really enjoyed the morning and look forward to being involved again in next year’s C2C, where we can once again share our professional experiences and insights.”
C2C involved the entire St Ursula’s Year 10 cohort with approximately 100 students participating in conversations with local business representatives, tertiary and training providers, and industry.
Students were engaged in conversations with potential employers and gained confidence through interactions with industry professionals.
St Ursula’s College Principal, Ms Deborah Ryan, extended her thanks to the representatives in attendance.
“The business and industry representatives are an integral part of this event and continue to support us each and every year,” Mrs Ryan said.
“We are grateful for their time spent sharing career information and helping our students develop effective communication skills in the workplace.”
