About the opportunity
The Faculty of Science, Partner Engagement and Outreach is currently seeking an Indigenous Engagement Officer to support and promote the widening participation and outreach opportunities available to local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and community in Narrabri and surrounding areas, in line with the University’s One Sydney, Many People Strategy 2021-2024 and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment Plan 2022-2024.
The Indigenous Engagement Officer will work within the Partner Engagement and Outreach team and collaborate closely with colleagues based at Narrabri Faculty of Science campus and facilities.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- engage with the local community to highlight the importance of further studies and careers in STEM and related areas
- coordinate and deliver student and community engagement events and programs including a range of activities relating to current student programs that support students and community residing in Narrabri and surrounding areas
- further develop and manage the relationship with internal and external stakeholders based at Narrabri and surrounding areas including speakers, presenters, associations, and partners
- work collaboratively with colleagues across the Faculty of Science as well as in the Marketing and Communication portfolio to develop marketing and communication collateral and media and PR campaigns to support events
- provide pastoral support to all Indigenous students, graduate trainees, and stakeholders to support further studies in STEM and related areas
- deliver Partner and Engagement programming at Narrabri.
This position has been designated for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people only under the provisions of section 126 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).

- relevant experience working in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities

- excellent administrative skills, project documentation, report writing and presentation skills
- customer service approach with excellent interpersonal skills and experience in managing a diverse group of key stakeholders on projects/programs and the ability to develop/cultivate productive relationships with local communities and key users.

Please note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
