- Sausage sizzle spotted on sale in Bali
- Aussies shared photo of the sale online
- The origins of the photo have been revealed
Aussies have been left in shock after a photo re-emerged showing the iconic Bunning sausage sizzle on sale in Bali.
The photo shows a woman standing at a stall on the island, with the banner ‘Charity Bunnings Sausage Sizzle’ flying above it.
Another message on the stall explains how the sizzle was organised by the Botanica Bar in Bali – which is run by Aussies.
The photo caused a stir on social media, with Aussies left scratching their heads over the surprise appearance of the Bunnings sausage sizzle in Bali.
However, it can be revealed that the image dates back to a fundraising appeal from January 2020 to raise money for Australians affected by bushfires that year.
The bar, based in Seminyak, hosted the appeal for several days with all proceeds going to the Red Cross Fire Relief Fund.
The sausages were supplied by an Australian butcher and paid homage to the warehouse fry-up with onions, tomato sauce and mustard.
Australian Brenton Banner, 30, the executive head chef and general manager of Botanica Bali, came up with the concept.
Originally from Warrnambool in Victoria, Mr Banner said he felt helpless over the situation back home and wanted to help.
He said the stall has drawn both locals and tourists, but had been particularly popular with Australians.
‘I just wanted to help out back home. It’s so far away. I wanted to be able to do something.’
‘It’s been really good, people are happy with it and coming down with us putting in donations into our tin.’
‘Hopefully we can get a few more people down this week and get a few more donations.’
Reacting to the photo on Monday, Aussies hailed the move.
One asked: ‘Why can’t they sell beer at the Bunnings here?’
Another added: ‘They have figured out that Aussies have the gene that instantly makes them crave a Bunnings sausage sizzle, and will inevitably part with a few dollarydoos to soothe the savage beast.’
While a third joked: ‘Bali being gentrified.’
The Bunnings warehouse sausage sizzle is a national icon, which is operated by various organisations outside stores on weekends
