ONE of the cars involved in a start-line crash that has become part of Bathurst 1000 folklore has come onto the market for sale.
Sir Jack Brabham famously went nowhere when the flag dropped to start the 1976 edition of the Great Race, having inadvertently selected two gears in the Holden Torana he was due to share with fellow Grand Prix legend Sir Stirling Moss.
The Torana remained stricken in its 10th-place starting position and was eventually smashed in the tail by the Triumph Dolomite of John Dellaca and Terry Wade, which had started 36th.
Both cars were eventually repaired and rejoined the race but failed to be classified as finishers.
The Dolomite continued to race in touring car events for several more years, including another Bathurst 1000 start in 1980, and has since been a participant in the bustling historic Group C scene.
The car is now up for sale on my105.com. Per the listing, its bodywork is in great condition with plastic still on the door cards, while its engine has had a full rebuild.
