An ‘adored and idolised’ father and husband is being remembered by loved ones after his tragic death in a severe truck rollover on the Peak Downs Highway west of Mackay.
Mark Turner died after his truck rolled on the Peak Downs Highway near Greenmount, west of Mackay, on Thursday, May 25.
Paramedics had taken Mr Turner to Mackay Base Hospital in a critical condition where he spent two days “fighting to stay with us” but he did not recover, dying on Saturday, May 27.
He was 64.
A GoFundMe set up in the name of his family, written by Charlotte Thomas, pays tribute to the Mirani husband and father.
“To say that there are a lack of words to describe such an amazing man is an understatement,” Ms Thomas wrote.
“He was a dearly loved husband of 39 years, and an adored and idolised father to four children.
“He was a man of little words, but had an impact on hundreds.
“He was never too busy to lend a hand, and no wasn’t part of his vocabulary.
“He was taken from us far too soon, and we will never have another like him. Love you always Mark.”
Initial police investigations indicated his truck had been heading towards Mackay when it left the highway and crashed into a tree about 5pm.
It rolled, catching fire, and trapped Mr Turner until emergency crews could free him from the wreckage.
Ms Thomas’ GoFundMe has asked for help to create “a memorial for him so that he can rest peacefully knowing he has done his family and friends so proud”.
As of 2pm Wednesday, it had raised $1470 towards a $7000 target.
