HE’S a former Rangers player who won the Scottish Cup twice in two unforgettable finals.
He also made history for his last club when they scooped the League Cup too.
Now, he’s pitched up for pre-season training with players in the SIXTH tier of Scottish football aiming to find his next club.
And the high-school pitch surroundings Michael O’Halloran is training on are a far cry from the Rangers training centre or his glory days at Hampden with St Johnstone.
He’s been pictured among the pre-season squad sessions for St Cadoc’s YC, based in Newton Mearns just outside Glasgow.
Formed from a local primary school team turned youth football and netball club with more than 1000 members, they entered the pyramid as a senior side in the West of Scotland League three years ago and gained Premier promotion last season.
New boss Martin Fellowes has recruited ex-Falkirk duo Bob McHugh and Gary Miller, and they were joined by Scotland under-21 cap O’Halloran at training this week.
Miller and O’Halloran won the Scottish Cup together in 2014 with St Johnstone.
However the winger was released from his second spell by new St Johnstone boss Steven Maclean at the end of last season and has been without a club since.
He spent the second half of last term on loan at Cove Rangers.
But he has shown his willingness to get back into the game by going back to basics for the St Cadoc’s training at Eastwood High School.
The club posted images and video from their recent sessions on social media – with the 31-year-old attacker prominent.
McHugh and Miller follow fellow ex-pro’s Chris Erskine, Ross Barbour and Grant Anderson who played for the club last season.
Ex-Livingston defender Alan Lithgow is also part of the set-up that has been keeping O’Halloran ticking over.
Other ex-Falkirk figures like Mark Millar and Mark Stewart have also donned the colours during the club’s senior team’s early years.
O’Halloran lifted the Scottish Cup in each of his two spells with St Johnstone – adding the League Cup in their epic 2020-21 double-winning campaign.
He’s not the first ex-Ger to go back to grassroots to get fit for the new season either.
Former team-mate Joe Dodoo has been spotted working out in local parks after his release from Burton in January in a bid to be ready for the new season.
