With Texas’ weekend sweep of Colorado, the Astros remain two games back in the American League West. … Framber Valdez’s four-hit shutout over Oakland on Sunday reduced the Astros’ MLB-best team ERA to 3.19. … Jose Altuve’s first two hits of the season this past weekend gave him 1,937 for his career, tying him with Jose Cruz for third place on the franchise list behind Craig Biggio (3.060) and Jeff Bagwell (2,314). … Altuve needs 63 hits to become, in all probability, the seventh active member of the 2,000 club. Brewers (25-21) update: Milwaukee, which salvaged the finale in a three-game series at Tampa Bay on Sunday, leads the National League Central by a game over Pittsburgh. … Utility man Owen Miller, who is hitting .344 in 93 at-bats, has reached base in 22 consecutive games. That’s the second-longest active streak in the majors behind Colorado’s Jurickson Profar (29). Miller has a 13-game hitting streak, during which he’s batting .408. … In 16 games in May, former NL Most Valuable Player Christian Yelich is batting .317 with four home runs and 13 RBIs. … Burnes, who led the NL with 243 strikeouts last year, is averaging 8.0 K’s per nine innings in 2023 after averaging 12.0 per nine over the previous four seasons. Monday’s start will be the first of his career against the Astros. … Having taken over the ninth-inning role since Josh Hader was dealt to San Diego last season, Devin Williams has emerged as one of the game’s best closers. In earning his seventh save Sunday, the righthander lowered his ERA to 0.59 in 15 appearances this season. He has allowed just seven hits in 15 1/3 innings.
