On Monday, May 15, a spokesperson for West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service said: “We were called at 4.20pm on Sunday 14 May to reports of a fire involving a property on Brighton Road in Horsham.
“Joint Fire Control mobilised fire engines from Crawley, Horsham and the water carrier from Burgess Hill to the scene along with crews from Surrey Fire & Rescue Service.
“Upon arrival crews found a fire in the rear of the ground floor of the terraced property. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used three high pressure hose reels and a covering jet to extinguish the fire. One crew remained on scene into the evening to dampen down and carry out visits to neighbouring properties to provide fire safety advice. The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.”
