There, they found a three-year-old boy dead inside a unit.
It’s understood a 45-year-old man had been threatening self-harm, leading to police being called to the address over concerns for the child.
The man was taken to hospital in a critical condition. He underwent surgery and is now in a stable condition, Superintendent Sheridan Waldau told reporters on Wednesday night.
“We do believe the three-year-old child resided with the 45-year-old male,” she said, also revealing the child’s mother died a few years ago.
Police said they were called to the home by a woman who lives at the unit. Authorities said she is a family member related to the male.
Supt Waldau said the investigation is in its preliminary stages.
“Any incident involving a child is always a tragic incident and our condolences go out to the extended family of the child,” she said.
