Hollywood Vampires are rescheduling an Upstate New York concert after band member Johnny Depp suffered a “painful injury.”
The rock group, which also features Alice Cooper and Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry, will perform at the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts on July 30 at 8 p.m. The show was originally scheduled for this Thursday, June 1.
Previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new date. Additional tickets are still available through Ticketmaster, as well as VividSeats, StubHub, Megaseats, TicketNetwork or SeatGeek.
The Bethel concert is the only New York stop on Hollywood Vampires’ tour and one of just three U.S. tour dates scheduled this year. Performances in Boston, Mass., and Manchester, N.H., have also been rescheduled for July 28 and July 29, respectively.
“We are sad to share that the Hollywood Vampires will be rescheduling our three US tour dates this coming week,” the band said in a statement. “Johnny has sustained a painful injury to his ankle following his recent appearances and has been advised by his doctor not to travel. He is devastated by this turn of events, but looks forward to resting up so all four Vampires can bring their absolute best to the tour in Europe.”
Hollywood Vampires has released just one album, featuring covers of artists like The Who, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd and The Doors, plus a handful of originals like “My Dead Drunk Friends” co-written by Depp and others. Cooper takes lead vocals while Depp and Perry both play guitar.
Perry told syracuse.com in 2016 that he first realized Depp’s guitar skills were legit in the Oscar-nominated movie “Chocolat.” Depp plays Roux, a travelling guitarist who falls for a French chocolatier (Juliette Binoche).
“I heard that he played guitar and, you know, a lot of people play guitar,” Perry said. “[In the movie] he’s playing some pretty intricate guitar licks… and then when I found out it was actually him playing it, I was like ‘No s—. This guy can [play].’”
“And especially when he comes up on stage and his amp is right next to yours, you can really hear he’s got the chops…. This guy can rock. And he does. And he loves it. He’s a great player.
The group, named after a celebrity drinking club formed by Cooper in the 1970s, also features Duff McKagan, but the bassist will be busy this summer with a Guns N’ Roses tour. Guns N’ Roses have one Upstate New York concert scheduled: Sept. 1 at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC) in Saratoga Springs.
Cooper is also scheduled to perform with Def Leppard and Motley Crue at the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse on Aug. 5. Perry will later join Aerosmith’s farewell tour for a Jan. 16, 2024, show at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo.
