A giant high street bakery is on track to open over a hundred new stores within a few months.
The owner of Greggs says the bakery chain is on track with plans to open 150 new stores across the UK.
The hot dog seller said it would open new stores in Cornwall and other areas where it currently has fewer locations.
The opening is part of the group’s rapid expansion plan, which includes a commitment to add 150 new stores to the group’s books by the end of the year.
Greggs currently operates around 2,300 stores across the UK, but said it hopes to expand to more than 3,000 stores as part of its long-term growth strategy.
The company said it expects to open 150 new stores this year but is willing to accelerate these plans if more locations are available.
It comes after the team opened its fourth store in Cornwall, in U2 Enterprise Park, Saltash, on Saturday (June 10) as it targeted locations where the sausage maker had a smaller presence.
Greggs opened several new stores in the first half of this year, located at:
- Bedford (drive by)
- Bristol Retail Park, Gallagher
- Bristol, Primark (Delicious Cafe)
- Glasgow Airport
- Newcastle, Primark (Delicious Cafe)
- Sitbourne, Kent (drive through)
- Spennymoor, County Durham
- Ulverston (drive by), Beehive Business Park
The following locations will also have new Greggs stores over the next few weeks:
- Canary War Station, London
- Cardiff, North Road
- Colchester, North Gate Amusement Park
- Edinburgh, Castle Street
- Forres, Scotland
- Gatwick Airport, South Terminal
- Leeds, Primark (Delicious Coffee Shop)
- Liverpool, Primark (Delicious Cafe)
- Peterborough, jade green
Greggs hasn’t confirmed a specific date these stores will open but we’ll do a follow-up story once we know.
Roisin Currie, Greggs’ boss, says she’s pleased with the team’s progress in opening new sites.
“The opening strategy will be planned and the new location in Cornwall is a big part of that,” she said.
“Obviously we’re a brand that started in the North and the natural growth of the business from there means that there are certain parts of the country, such as in Cornwall and the South West, where we see more scope to open web pages.”
The new opening takes place on existing stores in St Austell, Launceston and Truro in the county.
Bosses says that some of the new locations in the expansion plan will target UK holidaymakers and holidaymakers, with openings at tourist sites such as front yards and service stations.
It comes after the group revealed in May that sales had grown by almost a fifth in early 2023 as its cheap meals remained “appealing” to cash-strapped consumers. face.
Greggs opened a record 186 new stores in 2022 and it now operates at more than 2,300 locations.
In March, the bread giant announced plans for a 24-hour drive-thru service.
But the chain has yet to decide where the testing will take place.
There are currently 17 drive-thru locations nationwide and they are planning to open another 8 to 10 locations this year.
Greggs first opened a drive-through service in 2017 in Salford, Manchester.
Drive-thru allows customers to grab their usual sausage rolls, donuts and more from the comfort of their car.
Currently, the drive-thrus usually opens at 6am and closes at 9-10pm.
But exact opening times may vary, depending on the location.
