Several robberies were reported across the city since Wednesday and members of the police task team, accompanied by the K9-Unit, managed to locate and pursue three people fleeing in a VW Polo through Sydenham, Sidwell and New Brighton at a high speed.
The chase lasted approximately 10 minutes and came to an end when the Polo veered across a railway line and crashed into a boundary wall in New Brighton.
Police spokesperson Captain André Beetge said reports were received about several street robberies taking place in the Humewood and Mount Road areas since Wednesday afternoon.
The victims identified the getaway car of the perpetrators as a VW Polo, with no registration plates.
The three men were allegedly driving around, robbing people of their cellphones and other valuable items.

“A replica firearm believed to have been used to commit the robberies was also found in the vehicle,” Beetge said.
The three are set to appear in the Gqeberha Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
