We are all ready for a fun-filled weekend at the Weippe Museum opening for the 2023 season on Friday, May 26, noon to 4 p.m., to show off our new displays for this year.
Saturday, May 27 begins with a Bake Sale at 10 a.m. Come get your treats for the Memorial Day weekend visitors.
At 11 a.m. the BBQ will start serving cheeseburgers and hotdogs. There will be homemade chili to top it off with, if you want, and other fixin’s are available also, as well as potato salad. Supreme Nacho’s will also be available.
At 1 p.m. Emerald Hutchins will be running the mini sawmill for everyone’s enjoyment. That is always a favorite display for our events. Thank you, Emerald for your entertaining and knowledgeable display.
Then at 2 p.m. the games begin, for kids and adults, with cash prizes for the winners. Of course, there will be viewing available all three days of the displays with lots and lots of visiting with old and new friends.
Sunday, May 28 we will open at 11 a.m. for the BBQ again (same as Saturday food).
At 2 p.m. is what we all be waiting for, THE RAFFLE! Get your tickets at $1 each, or six for $5. They can be purchased at the Museum, or at the Elk Horn Tavern in Weippe. We have 60 plus items to raffle from Orofino, Pierce and Weippe merchants who have graciously donated to help our fund raiser.
We thank you all very much! A list of raffled items, merchants and winners will be in next weeks Clearwater Tribune. We have list of raffle items at the Museum, Elk Horn and Clonningers bulletin board in Weippe.
This past week at the Museum we had 13 children and four adults from the Weippe Head Start visit for a field trip. What fun we all had with the five-year-olds. We shared with them the displays and history of the Hilltop. We had some hands on experiences like dialing a rotary telephone and using a Weippe Gorilla’s Megaphone.
The Scavengers Hunt was a success and it was fun to find items in the Museum. All 13 kids found them all. They all chose a prize of their choice from the Treasure box. Upon leaving they all received a “History of Weippe” color book, pencil from Jordans old time store (collectable item), and a Weippe Hilltop Badge. We look forward to their visit next year.
Last weekend the staff and myself took a fun trip to the “Desserts at the Clearwater/ElkCity Wagon Road Museum”. The Museum’s curator was very pleasant and informative. The Museum was all decorated with fine linen table cloths, napkins, tea pots and cups with fresh Lilac centerpieces for the desserts to be served by their members on a serving cart. The many homemade desserts to choose from was a delight. This is an annual event for their Museum. Next year we will attend again and encourage everyone to take a scenic drive to Clearwater, Idaho to attend! What a great group of fellow Museum members to share our stories with.
Thank you for letting us share your museum and the yummy desserts!
Now back to work. We are putting the finishing touches on the displays this week. Calendars, “BARNS ON HILLTOP” will be for sale on Friday.
See you all this weekend!
