ROUND THE TRACK by Craig Jervis
G’day Readers,
How’s this, the Victorian government is going to fund $250 million to build a new state of the art Motorsport complex at Avalon, this track will be built to FIA grade 1 standards to suit F1 Supercars and Moto GP.
World-class, I say.
Victoria is furnished with a number of tracks, the most notable of which is Albert Park.
Plus, back in 2019, Cardinia Motor Complex south of Melbourne was given the green light at a cost of $200 million.
So two new tracks for Victoria, this is great news for motorsport.
For us, Circuit CQ it has taken 13 years to date.
We all can’t give up I’ll keep pushing.
Running the Goldrush Hillsprint and having RockyNats shows what motorsport gives back to the economy of our area, our Pollies need to recognise this and help fund our complex.
I don’t normally support what Roland Dane states in his Summer Grill on Speedcafe, but this round, I do.
Supercars want to move some Australia rounds at the cost of events held in Australia to overseas, not in New Zealand but to Asia and they are also looking at going back to the USA.
This is a waste of money for teams and the events, we don’t have any footprint overseas.
The last time they did this at one of the events, only a couple thousand spectators turned up, so it was a no-show.
Supercars must be viable to its teams, it has to be showcasing all the sponsors that support not only the teams but the event sponsors as well.
Ninety-nine per cent of the sponsors that support our categories are from Australia they don’t have a footprint overseas and are not looking at wanting a footprint overseas they are here supporting Australia.
Roland feels the same and has come across a bit of flak from owners of Supercars (RACE) their CEO is moving forward in getting the category overseas.
Bad move for Australian Motorsport.
On the local front, my mate and a great supporter of Goldrush Hillsprint from Gladstone, Jason Busk, has just received his new car Porsche GT.
Now Jason is no weekend warrior, he has raced previously in Bathurst six hour and 12 hour in his Ford powered MARC car.
He sold the Marc car a couple of years ago to help fund Hyundai Excels for his kids to tune their race craft. But now it’s dad’s turn.
The Porsche has broke covers and looks awesome with backing from GMEX and Gladrock Transport, Jason is looking at a return to Bathurst 12 hour, then if funding keeps rolling in do the Michelin Sprint series or Production sports series.
So come along and see this beast and Jason at CQ Crane Hire Goldrush Hillsprint in July.
Come and support locals in this great event with 175 teams from around Australia chasing to be the Legend of the Goldrush.
Plus, all of us local lads are heading off again in last weekend of May for round two of the Qld Sprint series at Morgan Park Warwick.
It’s going to be cold (freezing, I say), but we will all come home smiling after a great weekend of racing.
So stay positive CIRCUIT CQ will happen.
Your voice in motorsport.
