The Live Sail Die team has seen these young sailors race against each other and with each other on the same team. They are a fantastic group of sailors who represent their school and country with pride.
Let’s help them raise funds so they can represent New Zealand in Australia!
The team is aiming to raise NZD$16,000 – so every dollar will help!
Inspirational Westlake Girls set sail for Sydney
The Westlake crew of Daniella Wooldridge, Bella Jenkins, Gretel Satterthwaite, Jess Handley, Zara Latimer, Emma Reid, Danielle Robertson and Emily Turner are in serious fundraising mode for the Interdominion Team Racing Championship which will be hosted by the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron under the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
In order to take on the Aussies in their home waters, the girls will also need to spend hours training over the winter months here in Auckland. Their dedicated parents will support them every step of the way, with the girls already having hosted their first sausage sizzle to kick start the fundraising.
Westlake Girls High School Sailing Team had a rapid rise to the top of secondary school sailing in New Zealand, claiming the Girls’ National Title at the recently held Secondary Schools Team Sailing Championships in Algies Bay.
They worked hard during the short but intense lead-up to the event and were surprised and elated to head off challenges from other top girls’ schools to take the win. This result has earned the team an invitation to represent New Zealand and their school in Sydney from 24-27th September.
The cost of competing at this event adds a significant financial burden to families. It would benefit the team immensely to have the major travel costs such as airfares and accommodation funded. This team is determined to add the Interdominion title to their collection of achievements this year.
Please help them get there and achieve their goal.
