By Phil Henry, President of Capricornia Commerce
The last few months have been busy for the Capricornia Chamber of Commerce, its members and committee.
One of the main reasons has been a focus state-wide on health in the workplace, together with a higher number of requests from other local organisations to work with the Chamber.
These two themes collided when Dr Vicki Richmond from the Fitzroy Hospice presented at a recent members meeting on mental health in the workplace.
The Hospice is a very worthwhile local initiative; see details here:
Another speaker at that event was Jonathan Mamaril from NB Employment Lawyers in Brisbane.
Jonathan conducted a highly interactive session on how to mitigate risks from the recent legislation about managing workplace those mental health circumstances triggered by issues outside the workplace.
The Chamber has conducted several sessions on the general theme of workplace health and this will continue at its next members meeting, at Cocobrew, then Vector Health, at 5.30 pm on 7 June.
Register on the website (capricorniachamber.com.au) if you’re interested.
Dinner is included in the cost and there will be some physical exercise involved also.
The other notable event during the Small Business Month of May was the visit by the Small Business Commissioner, Dominique Lamb.
Dominique visited several small businesses, hosted by Advance Rockhampton and, in Yeppoon, by the Chamber.
During her visit, Livingstone Shire Council signed up to be a Small Business Friendly Council at a well-attended function at Stir ‘n Stitch in Yeppoon.
Keep abreast of future events by signing up for the Chamber’s newsletter on our website.
See you soon!
