The Planning Matters Alliance of Tasmania, or P-MAT) will host public meetings on the North-West Coast next week to discuss proposed changes to Local Government, including forced amalgamations and the removal of planning from local councils.
P-MAT, which is an alliance of around 70 community groups working on planning and development issues across Tasmania, has already held six meeting in other parts of the state.
State Co-ordinator Sophie Underwood says the organisation is deeply concerned about the scale of potential changes and all indications from community conversations held so far indicate the community is too.
She says P-MAT will host public meetings at Latrobe and Wynyard next week to help community wrap it’s head around the scale of possible changes to the way local government operates in Tasmania.
The Latrobe meeting will be at the Latrobe Speedway Function Centre between 6 and 7.30 pm on Wednesday, with the Wynyard meeting to be held at The Barracks Restaurant in Goldie Street the following evening at the same time.
Meanwhile, the Circular Head Council is hosting it’s own series of drop-in sessions for locals to hear the thoughts of locals on the proposed changes.
The first session will be at the Council Chambers at Smithton tomorrow evening, followed by Stanley next Wednesday, Marrawah on June 28, Rocky Cape on July 5, and Forest on July 12th.
