Little green men probably won’t be crash-landing in Roswell, New Mexico again this July.
But UFO enthusiasts, believers of the existence of extraterrestrial beings, and those who just like having a good time will definitely descend on “The UFO Capital of the World” the first weekend of July for the UFO Festival.
The Roswell Incident
The world-famous festival commemorates what is now known as The Roswell Incident.
In the summer of 1947, a rancher discovered debris from an unidentified flying object on a ranch located a few miles outside of Roswell.
Depending on whose account you believe, it was either a “flying saucer” that crash landed or a military high-altitude balloon, and the bodies allegedly recovered were either extraterrestrial in nature or crash test dummies.
UFO Festival
For those who have never been, the 3-day party celebrates all things alien-related and features numerous events including concerts, planetarium laser shows, retro sci-fi movies, a drone show, and guest speakers at the Roswell UFO Museum.
Scrolling through the festival Facebook and website reveals there is so much to do at the UFO Festival.
There’s the Alien Crawl, which is a party bus that stops at a few of Roswell’s finest restaurants, where you can sample alien-themed beverages and appetizers. A parade with alien-themed floats and storm-troopers from a galaxy far, far away, and the crowd favorite pet costume contest to name just a few.
Earthlings looking to get out of town for a pre-4th of July close encounter with fun should consider a road trip to Roswell for some out-of-this-world fun.
