Tottenham relegated Leeds with a 4-1 win at Elland Road, inspired by Harry Kane, but it was not enough to earn them a spot in Europe after Aston Villa beat Brighton to clinch a place in the Europa Conference League.
Kane fired Spurs ahead inside three minutes and set up Pedro Porro to make it 2-0 at the start of the second half.
Leeds, who needed to win to have any chance of beating the drop, pulled one back through Jack Harrison but Kane immediately bagged his 30th goal of a remarkable individual campaign to seal the hosts’ fate.
On his final Spurs appearance, Lucas Moura scored a brilliant individual goal to cap off Spurs’ win.
Dan Kilpatrick was at Elland Road to rate the Spurs players…
Fraser Forster 7
Couldn’t keep out Harrison’s low finish but relatively untroubled by a wasteful Leeds side, with only a couple of stops to make, including a late block to deny Brenden Aaronson.
Emerson Royal 7
Started the move for Kane’s early goal and was energetic, even if he fluffed a couple of good openings on the break.
Davinson Sanchez 5
Very jittery in possession but did enough defensively. Looks like he needs a fresh start somewhere else to restore his confidence.
Clement Lenglet 7
Made a fine block to deny Luke Ayling at the back post and brought the ball out of defence well.
Ben Davies 6
Also made an important block to deny Ayling (seconds before Lenglet’s) but couldn’t stop Harrison’s low effort for the goal.
Pedro Porro 8
Took his goal superbly, made Kane’s second and was involved in the England captain’s early strike, as well. Clearly a work in progress but there’s plenty there.
Yves Bissouma 7
Added control and energy to the base of midfield. Rusty but encouraging for next season.
Oliver Skipp 7
Has looked a little jaded in the last few matches but did a job off the ball, snapping into tackles and making some important interceptions.
Dejan Kulusevski 6
Blew a glorious chance to make it 2-0 when he fluffed a passed to Son on the break in the first half. Showed flashes of his best but could do with a re-set in the off-season.
Heung-min Son 7
Set up Kane’s early goal with a simple pass. A threat on the break all afternoon.
Harry Kane 9
Became the first player to reach 30 goals twice in a 38-game Premier League season with two superbly-taken strikes, and also set up Porro with a superb piece of play. Where would Spurs be without him?
Subs
Pape Matar Sarr (Kulusevski 67′) 7
Started the move for the third goal with a header into Porro’s path.
Richarlison (Son 76′) 6
Twice tested Joel Robles in the Leeds goal but couldn’t add to his tally of just one League goal this season.
Matthew Craig (Bissouma 76′) 6
A Spurs debut for the 20-year-old midfielder, who helped them see out the final 15 minutes.
George Abbott (Skipp 90′) N/A
Another debut.
Lucas Moura (Porro 90) 8
Beat three Leeds players to score a fine individual goal and make it a goodbye to remember.
Not used: Austin, Danjuma, Tanganga, Alonso.
