Teams from Gympie, Dalby, Toowoomba Highfields, Nambour, Chinchilla and attended the Heritage Nanango Panthers MiniRoos Carnival at Nanango on Sunday, 4 June.
A little rain was not going to stop the Panthers from hosting their first carnival in over two decades.
There were 55 teams from all around southeast Queensland and the Panthers hosted games from under-6s to under-11s across the day.
Nanango Panthers Soccer Club’s Kym Janes was excited to see the carnival come to fruition.
“Nanango hasn’t hosted a carnival for over 20 years, it’s been a pipedream for Nanango to host a carnival,” she said.
“For us to facilitate a carnival is exciting.”
Although there were light showers throughout the carnival day, the cooler temperature was perfect for the juniors to run on the field and the attendees embraced the carnival.
“What started out as a dreary day has exceeded our expectations,” Janes said.
“It’s great to see the young football players out there.”
Over the years the Panthers have travelled to other clubs’ carnivals and it was nice to see them return the favour.
“It’s nice to see different teams in the South Burnett – to welcome them back to see what our club can do,” Janes said.
“We still had our local South Burnett teams registered which is wonderful,” Janes said.
The soccer carnival was proudly sponsored by Heritage Bank Nanango.
Janes thanked the Panthers committee members and volunteers for their support, as well as the wider Nanango community.
“After months of preparations we’re overwhelmed with support we’ve received from the community and nominating teams,” she said.
Nanango Panthers are hopeful the MiniRoos Carnival will be an event they can continue to offer in the future.
