The Yeppoon Seagulls have finally broken their drawing streak with the Emu Park Emus thanks to the sharpshooting of Jye Marriott.
The Yeppoon team would beat their coastal rivals 30-28 in the most dramatic circumstances.
With the scores locked up at 28-28, thanks in part to doubles from the Parkies’ Jonus Pearson and Seagulls’ Ryan Keating, the game looked destined to finish once again in a draw.
But in the 79th minute the Seagulls were handed a penalty which the team would hand to goal-kicker Marriott.
The winger would slot his fifth goal of the afternoon, only missing one in the match, to give his side a last-minute victory.
That win would push the Gullies up to second on the ladder and now have the week off due to drawing the round 11 bye.
Their opposition on the weekend, the Emu Park Emus, will now face a tough challenge where they will aim to rebound.
The Parkies will challenge the North Chargers at Browne Park on Saturday evening.
The Chargers also fell in round 10 when they were knocked off by the current league-leaders the Rockhampton Brothers.
The Brothers extended their gap on the competition to three points after defeating Norths 20-14.
Mitchell Power’s 72nd minute try and subsequent conversion was enough to complete a comeback which saw the Fish down 14-10 at half time.
Anthon Ngunz’s hattrick put the Chargers ahead but the side couldn’t hold onto that lead on Sunday afternoon.
The winner of the match between Norths and Emu Park will secure third place for the week, meaning it could be a crucial outcome for the impending finals series.
And those Rockhampton Brothers will be seeking another big win when they host the Fitzroy-Gracemere Sharks on Saturday evening.
The Sharkies are floating at the bottom of the table but have looked dangerous on several occasions this season.
That includes pushing the Brothers to the edge back in round five where the Brothers survived an attack from the Fitzroys by just four points.
In the Intersport Yeppoon Women’s competition the Gladstone Wallabys have continued their dominance of the competition with another 40-point win.
The Wallabys smashed the Tannum Sands Seagulls 46-6 on Saturday and this weekend they welcome the Fitzroy-Gracemere Sharks to Albion Park.
The Sharks picked up a good win over the Emu Park ladies on Sunday with the final score reading 16-6.
That momentum may still not be enough to stop the Gladstone squad which remain undefeated in 2023.
The team chasing the Wallabys’ tail, the Rockhampton Brothers will face off against the other Gladstone-region side, the Tannum Sands Seagulls.
The Brothers have looked good this season and after coming off the bye, the team will be fresh and eager to put their best foot forward.
In the final game of the round the Norths Chargers will be aiming to end their losing streak when they take on the Emu Park Emus.
