Pat Smith
In a style reminiscent of well-known poet, Pam Ayers, Patricia O’Brien-Price entertained the 120 strong group of QB01 and QB02 VIEW members, including a good contingent of Gympie ladies, who travelled to or live in Maryborough, for the QB Area Gala.
Held at the Brolga Theatre, the event attracted such speakers as Alan Le May, General Manager of The Smith Family Queensland, Evelyn Berg, National Vice President of VIEW, Marion Allan, Programme and Scholarship Administration Team Leader for the Smith Family, Bruce Saunders, MP for Maryborough, Fraser Coast Mayor, George Seymour, and Councillor Jade Wellings.
Members enjoyed a wonderful time of fellowship, entertainment and information.
Abbie Grant-Taylor, Board member Gympie Community Place and Community Action, Co-chair of Gympie Region Local Level Alliance, Co-ordinator of
Gympie Housing and Homelessness Forum and Delegate to the State Government’s Wide Bay/Burnett Regional Community Forum, was Guest Speaker at Gympie VIEW Club’s recent luncheon.
Abbie informed the group that Gympie Community Place has been servicing the Gympie community for over 30 years.
It provides, amongst many services, an Information and Referral Service, Community Legal Advice, Tax Help, Advocacy and Support, Money Matters – Emergency Relief, and use of a phone or computer, printing and photocopying.
Presently, it is involved in some disaster and recovery work.
It also runs some funded programs, such as Community Connect, which is support for vulnerable families and individuals, as well as being Service Navigator for the re-build and buyback programs following last year’s floods, and has just employed a Community Engagement worker.
Gympie VIEW members are now looking forward to our 28th Birthday lunch today, 16 June, with our theme being, “Home among the Gumtrees”.
