Grimsby Town left-back Anthony Glennon is drawing interest from the Championship with Preston North End and Swansea City said to be interested, according to reports. The 23-year-old returned to the Mariners last summer after initially playing for the club on loan in 2020, signing a two-year contract with Town following his release from Burnley.
Glennon had a strong first season as one of the main creative outlets in Paul Hurst’s team, directly contributing to 12 goals last term with three goals and nine assists in all competitions. There was rumoured to be interest in Glennon from higher up the football pyramid as early as November last year with Sheffield Wednesday, Sunderland and Hull City named as clubs that were watching the players progress.
Now, Football Insider have reported that Championship clubs Preston and Swansea are potentially looking to secure the services of the Grimsby left-back. It would likely require a six-figure transfer fee to pry the player away from Blundell Park, as he has another year on his current deal. Town would only cash in on the player if they were confident in finding a suitable replacement though, with Danny Amos being the only other left-back at the club currently.

If there is genuine interest at that level for the player, then Grimsby will not have an issue fetching a sizeable fee for the player who is at an age where he still has plenty of time to develop. Swansea are thought to be in the market for a left-back with their main option Ryan Manning set to leave the club for free this summer with his contract running down, with Preston also wanting to improve on their current options.
Rumours of a key player potentially being tempted away from the club come in the same week as Town have begun their recruitment drive, with the first three summer signings confirmed as Hurst looks to build a team capable of improving on last term’s 11th-place finish.
That squad would be better with Glennon in it, with his crossing and set-piece ability key to the Mariners’ attacking efforts last season, but the club is unlikely to stand in the way of a player making the jump up if the price is right.
