Best Bet: Race 2 Sicilian (No. 10)
There’s a few first starters for the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Sicilian to overcome including early favourite Estrialla from the Maher and Eustace yard however there was nothing in the trials of the first starters to sway me away from the two-year-old daughter of I Am Invincible. Beaten just over three-lengths as a $4.80 chance in the Gimcrack Stakes before a placing in the Listed Lonhro Plate at her only other start, Sicilian has the race form on the board and the filly has trialled nicely on two occasions leading into her return to racing, Tim Clark rides and expecting Sicilian to be too quick for her rivals.
Value Bet: Race 8 Amnesty (No. 1)
The Annabel Neasham-trained Amnesty has to take the step from successive country wins to a provincial benchmark 64 however the filly has won three of her five starts and looks up to the task. A three-year-old daughter of The Brothers War, Amnesty has produced speed figures superior to the benchmarks for the class and distance in her last two wins at Nowra and Goulburn suggesting she can handle the step up in grade. Heavelon Van Der Hoven retains the ride and should be able to give Amnesty a lovely run launching from barrier four and Amnesty looks set to send punters home on a winning note from Gosford.
