Carter Gordon has capped off a breakout Super Rugby Pacific campaign by taking home the Melbourne Rebels Players’ Player award, becoming one of the youngest recipients in the Club’s history.
The twenty-two-year-old captivated rugby audiences this year with his fearless approach on both sides of the ball, while inspiring his teammates with his commitment and tenacity both on and off the field.
The star fly-half was joined by Ashley Marsters, who took home the women’s Players’ Player award following yet another spectacular season for the Rebels Super W team.
Marsters was a key catalyst behind the Rebels impressive performances against eventual Super W Champions, the Fijiana Drua in Fiji and the ACT Brumbies in Canberra and repeatedly leading from the front all season long, in what was her maiden campaign as Super W Captain.
Popular clubman, Richard Hardwick and Super W stalwart, Meretiana Robinson, have been recognised for their exceptional impacts on and off the field, winning this year’s The Spirit of Weary Dunlop award in what is their final season with the Club.
In what was his sixth season with the Rebels, Hardwick experienced a stellar 2023 campaign, recording the second-highest number of breakdown steals in the competition, while also providing crucial mentorship for a number of the Rebels’ younger players.
A member of the Rebels inaugural Super W squad, Robinson has developed into one of our Club’s most respected leaders on and off the field, through her work ethic, dedication and preparation and remains an important member of the Victorian rugby community moving forward.
Meanwhile, Theo Fourie and Chanelle Kohika-Skipper have been awarded the inaugural TAC Community Engagement awards for their tireless efforts working with the Victorian community.
Kohika-Skipper worked closely with Rugby Victoria throughout her first year in Melbourne, while Fourie has been a driving force behind the Melbourne Rebels close relationship with We Are Mobilise, leading a number of different outreaches as a coordinator for the Club’s official charity partner.
Lastly, Laiema Bosenavulagi has put the finishing touches on a memorable maiden Super W season, taking home the the People’s Choice Player of the Year awards, as voted by the fans.
Bosenavulagi was joined by Carter Gordon, who took home his second award for the night.
