Keen adventurers spent eight days exploring in the Goldfields-Esperance region this month after raising more than $200,000 for children who are sick, disadvantaged or living with a disability.
The “Gold N Sands” themed Variety WA 4WD Adventure challenged 17 teams of off-road enthusiasts with beach runs, technical challenges, rock climbing and recoveries.
The adventure began in Esperance on May 5 and trailed along the southern coast to Wharton before heading inland to Fraser Range, Norseman, Koora Retreat and Sandy Ridge.
The journey concluded in Kalgoorlie-Boulder at the weekend where a gala event took place at the Boulder Bowling Club to celebrate.
Participants had several stops along the way to soak up the sights and take part in entertaining activities such as a poker run event, theme nights, bands, quizzes and campfires.
The convoy also visited Condingup Primary School and the Norseman District High School during their travels.
They were joined by an experienced team of mechanics, medical staff and officials volunteering their time.
Variety WA motoring events manager James Brownlee said with minimum targets to reach, the teams had worked hard throughout the year to raise funds for Variety WA.
He said all funds raised stay within the State to help empower kids who are sick, experiencing disadvantage or living with disability.
Mr Brownlee said the four-wheel-drive adventure then becomes a celebration of their fundraising efforts, with support teams, caterers and entertainment provided along the way.
“The Variety WA 4WD Adventure is an eight-day off-road escape that challenges drivers while providing full support and logistics so that the entrants’ only responsibility on (the) event is to have fun,” he said.
“This year’s Variety WA 4WD Adventure raised over $200,000 — a fantastic achievement that will impact children, families and communities.
“(Participants had) plenty of fun, astounding views and weather, and surprises on and off-road.”
