- A TV news reporter took a tumble on camera
- Tyra Stowers almost fell into floodwaters
A news cameraman has been slammed after continuing to film a TV reporter after she tripped and almost plunged into fast-running floodwaters.
Tyra Stowers was reporting on the rainstorm smashing the Gold Coast on Tuesday and was standing precariously close to a waterway when she suddenly fell.
Stowers kneeled on the grass and laughed in embarrassment while the cameraman continued to film her.
Footage of the faux pas was shared to Twitter where social media users ripped into the cameraman.
‘Should have helped her up, mate,’ one wrote.
Stowers was sporting a blue raincoat and black high-heeled boots when she was giving an update on the wild weather that was lashing the region.
‘The heaviest rainfall across the state was right here on the Gold Coast with some parts reaching upwards of 150mm…,’ she said.
Stowers squealed and fell sideways before a painful thud was heard as she hit the wet grass – still holding on to the microphone and Nine Network umbrella.
She took the gaffe with an air of grace and humour after she fell on her knees and elbow right next to the flowing waters.
Stowers sat up looking at the camera and laughed over the fall before letting out a ‘no’ while sporting a grin and laughing at her situation.
Nine News posted the embarrassing stumble to its social media account.
‘Sometimes wet weather gets the best of us,’ it said.
‘Our #9News reporter @tyra_stowers has taken a tumble halfway through her wet weather report.’
Social media fans were quick to congratulate Stowers for her composed response.
‘Good time to have a laugh at yourself. Hopefully no harm done and kept smiling,’ one wrote.
One more said the journalist was ‘graceful’ in the way she fell over – while another compared her to an AFL player.
‘Held on the mic and the umbrella; brilliant. There are @afl players that flop when touched and throw their arms out at the first sign of a fall,’ they wrote.
‘They could learn a few things from Tyra.’
Others pointed their fingers at the mute camera operator and Channel Nine for parading her fall online.
‘Oh man 9News you did her dirty,’ one wrote, while the other commenter said, ‘Tyra a lovely woman, maybe you should have helped her up bro.’
‘Um….maybe help her up mate?,’ another said.
The fall came as wild weather was pummeling south-east Queensland with some areas getting soaked with a month’s worth of rain in just one night.
Minor flash flooding on the Gold Coast has been disrupting peak-hour commuters after waters spilled onto the M1 on Tuesday morning.
Toowoomba, in Queensland’s south, recorded 40-60mm of rain in one day – an amount it normally gets in a month.
Senior forecaster Felim Hannify at the Bureau of Meteorology said weather conditions would ease across south-east Queensland later in the day.
Cool mornings and dry conditions are forecast for the rest of the week.
Temperatures hit a high of 22C in Surfers Paradise, with similar temperatures forecast on Wednesday and Thursday.
Both days will have lows of 14C and 12C respectively, while Thursday will be a mostly sunny day with hardly any chance of rain.
