Gold Coast driver reverses car in dangerous joyride on Queensland street

•  An SUV drove backwards down a busy highway
• The car kept within the lines avoiding collision 

Shocking footage has captured the moment a driver reversed down a busy street  in front of stunned motorists.

The blue Hyundai SUV performed the daring stunt along Alexander Drive in Highland Park, on the Gold Coast, at 2pm on Monday.

Footage taken by a nearby motorist caught the dangerous act as it unfolded on the street.

Video shows the SUV switching lanes on the road as other drivers keep their distance.

The vehicle is seen maneuvering through a roundabout while a passenger recording the incident shares their utter disbelief.

‘This idiot,’ he said. ‘Oh god, that is ridiculous.’

‘What are you doing,’ the driver adds. 

A child is heard laughing in shock as the blue car continues to drive dangerously in front of them.

At another point the SUV remains within the lines of a steadily winding road while simultaneously avoiding cars that parked along the side of the street.  

After travelling a large distance and past the school, the SUV disappears into a side street and vanishes without a trace. 

Queensland police are investigating the reports they received from shocked drivers who witnessed the incident.
