The Gladstone community can look forward to another year of keeping cool in the pool with the operating contract awarded to run their local swimming hole.
After successful negotiations, Kempsey Shire Council has awarded a further 12-month contract for the management of the Macleay Memorial Pool in Gladstone to HudoSwim who had previously run the facility
The contract has been awarded for one year, with options to extend, to allow further analysis and community engagement regarding the ongoing financial viability of the pool at Gladstone.
Stephen Mitchell, Director of Corporate and Commercial at Kempsey Shire Council, was pleased to announce the successful outcome from the negotiations.
“We’ve been very fortunate to have had HudoSwim manage three of our pools over the past five years, including the Macleay Memorial Pool,” said Mr Mitchell.
“Council spends approximately $1 million a year on our pools, and it is important that we approach this responsibly in the context of the Special Rate Variation investigation project which is currently underway.”
Councillors assessed the tenders received to run Kempsey, South West Rocks and Gladstone swimming pools in a confidential session at the May Council Meeting.
Lifeguarding Services Australia Pty Ltd were awarded both Kempsey and South West Rocks swimming pools for a five year period with the option to extend for a further five years. The operators of Crescent Head pool continue in the role.
A report on the ongoing operation of Gladstone pool will be presented at a future Council Meeting.
