THE truly inspiring story of 70-year-old owner-trainer Terry Roberts and his discard chaser Dynamic continues at Wagga on Friday night in a heat of the GRNSW Thunderbolt (320m).
Winner of her past four straight, and in the money in all but one of her past 13 starts, Dynamic, a hulking daughter of Magic Sprite, has proven to be a revelation for Roberts.
FIELDS AND FORM WAGGA FRIDAY NIGHT
So much so that her rich vein of form has booked her a place in the heats of the world’s richest short-course series and a potential $75,000 payday in the grand final at Grafton on June 24.
“It’s unbelievable to be a chance in a race like this … hopefully she can just continue the way she’s been going,” Roberts said.
“I asked a few people if I was aiming too high and the response was that you may never get another chance in a series like this. So we’re going to give it our best shot and see how we go.
“She’s in great form, loves Wagga and the race is absolutely on at the right time so we’re giving it a crack.

“It’s the best series I’ve been in, never imagined I’d have a dog up to it.”
Reefton based Roberts has made a bit of an artform of turning greyhounds deemed undesirable by others into decent little money spinners.
But the exploits of Dynamic, which turned three on Monday, has taken that success to even greater heights with Roberts preparing her for 10 of her 13 racetrack victories.
“It didn’t start off so well,” Roberts recalled.
“I got the offer to take her as a giveaway midway through last year and thought what do I have to lose? She’d won three races when I got her but was out of form and the first six or seven starts I gave her she didn’t get sighted. Not even a place.
“She had a season not long after and then I changed her work up and started racing her twice a week. And she’s absolutely thriving with it.
“To be honest it’s surprised ‘the you know what’ out of me.”
On Friday night at Wagga, Dynamic will exit box three in her Thunderbolt heat looking to extend her winning sequence to five.
A victory will book her a place in the semi-finals at Grafton on June 18 with a berth in the $75,000-to-the-winner then just one step away.
“If she does win on Friday I’m looking at a few trips to Grafton which is around a 20-hour round trip.
“I’d need to give her a trial at the track as well. If you get there you need to give her every chance.
“There’s some handy dogs in her heat on Friday but she has the track experience. When she comes out she just charges for that fence, there’s no self preservation with her!”
While Dynamic spearheads Roberts’ assault on Friday night’s Wagga card the veteran conditioner has three other chances engaged across the meeting also.
Included is last start winner Princess Keevara which goes around in race three.
“She’s another giveaway,” Roberts said. “Her win last week was very good and I think she’s turned the corner now.”
And his secret?
“Plenty of TLC and one-on-one attention goes a long way.”
