NEWS RELEASE
GEORGIAN BAY CANCER SUPPORT CENTRE
*************************
The Georgian Bay Cancer Support Centre (GBCSC) in Penetanguishene is holding a community yard sale and barbecue on Saturday, June 24 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The event will also include tours of the centre until noon that day.
The community yard sale will feature an array of items such as furnishings including shelving and rugs, various household decor items, small appliances, and much more. The proceeds from the Yard Sale will go back to the centre to support much-needed programs and services for those impacted by cancer in the local area.
The GBCSC will be accepting donations of items from June 20 to 22 at the centre located at 45 Edward St. in Penetanguishene. Be sure to drop items off between 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. during operating hours only.
The barbecue will be happening later in the morning around 11 a.m. Everyone can enjoy some food and a light beverage for a donation to the GBCSC. Plus, the popular butter tart sundaes, which were a big hit at the butter tart festival on June 10, will also be available by donation for dessert.
The GBCSC has seen a significant increase in demand for its services over recent months from those requiring support living in north Simcoe and surrounding communities. It currently offers 60 hours of monthly programming, up from 40 hours a month a year ago. Monthly member enrolment has increased four per cent each month since January. Financial support for out-of-town treatment expenses (parking, gas, accommodations) is also up 24 per cent from 2022.
GBCSC receives no ongoing government funding and relies on donations, sponsorships, and grants to fund operations annually.
