A talented Geelong singer-songwriter hoping to inspire climate change action has been short-listed for a top prize alongside some of the biggest names in Australian music.
Bannockburn-based Shan Curry has been nominated for the Environmental Music Prize alongside some of the biggest names in Australian music, celebrating songs and music videos that “inspire action for climate and conservation”
Curry – known by her stage name SheisArjuna – said caring for the environment had long been a theme of her music.
“It’s very much about raising awareness for climate change, and my role as an artist to do just that,” she said.
“I want to highlight the need for us as a human collective to think about why it’s important to protect the Earth.”

Other finalists include Midnight Oil, Tash Sultana and fellow-Geelong face Xavier Rudd.
“If we don’t protect the earth, we won’t survive as a species,” she said.
“From that practical lens, we need to look after the thing that gives us life.”
After entering last year and missing out on the shortlist, Curry said she was “ecstatic” to be included alongside some of the music industry’s big names.
“It’s an absolute honour to be named alongside these people,” she said.
Curry’s latest solo musical venture, the SheisArjuna project, came about during Covid-19 lockdowns after years of performing with other artists.
“I’d been off social media for three or four years, and I decided to open up an account and start sharing what I was creating,” she said.
“It really seemed to resonate with people.”
