Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien is advising that, as the $1 billion Gympie bypass progresses, there will be further night works to deliver and install the concrete girders required to construct two new 100 metre two lane bridges over Upper Curra Creek, and a 60 metre bridge to carry Bradys Road over the new highway.
These night works will take place between Sunday 18 June and Friday 30 June.
“Due to the conditions attached to oversize load permits for the Bruce Highway, delivery of the girders will occur between 12am and 6am, Sunday to Friday nights,” Mr O’Brien said.
“The girders will be transported via the Bruce Highway, and Harvey Siding and Bradys Roads onto the construction site which intersects Bradys Road.
“Once on site, further transportation to the Upper Curra Creek site and installation of the girders will occur during standard day working hours between 6am and 6pm.
“Nearby residents may experience increased noise levels during the night work and will be informed of these activities.”
$800 million was allocated for the Gympie Bypass in 2018 by the former Coalition Government because the Cooroy to Curra section of the Bruce Highway is rated as one of the deadliest along our national highway.
“The current works, Section D, which is the four lane 26 Kilometre realignment of the Bruce Highway between Cooroy and Curra is set to open in mid-late 2024 and will bypass Gympie, eliminating eight sets of traffic lights,” Mr O’Brien said.
“The Bruce Highway will then be a flood proof four-lane divided highway from Brisbane to north of Gympie, which will reduce travel time, improve safety, and increase freight efficiency.”
