The beach at Withernsea has been drawing visitors looking to enjoy some welcome sunshine. After days of low cloud hanging over the east coast, leaving people envious of the glorious temperatures we have all been reading about in the west of the country, it is the east’s time to shine.
Scenes at Withernsea captured today by Hull Live have no doubt been replicated up and down the coastline, with families glad of the chance to experience some June warmth and maybe to dip a toe in the North Sea. But can we expect this new sunny spell to last?
The Met Office predicts highs of 23C today (Saturday, June 10) for the Hull area, with cloudless skies up until 9pm. Overnight, the temperatures will only fall as low as 12C and will start picking up again tomorrow morning.

Though there will be more cloud around, with the sun peeping through between 7am and 9am, highs of up to 25C are forecast along with full sunshine for a few hours in the afternoon, from around 3pm. Clear skies on Sunday night will probably only see temperatures fall to a low of 14C – warmer than some of the maximum daytime temperatures we have experienced recently – and things are set fair again for Monday, with weather experts’ summary of the day being “sunny”.
With highs of 24C (and lows of 13C) the weather looks as though it will remain settled although possibly becoming a degree or two cooler later on – but still no sign of rain to please gardeners. The threat of any thunderstorms appears to be confined more to Pennine areas, but people have been alerted to the high UV and pollen counts that are accompanying the warm conditions.
