There is something joyful about fruits—also colorful, whimsical, playful and—throughout history—symbolic and meaningful. Whether realized in gemstones, gold, enamel or all three, designers ripen their imagination with different interpretations. Some have a tonque-in-cheek Carmen Miranda feeling, while others mine antiquity and look to literature and paintings of the past for inspiration. Many of them have dual meanings in the historical send but the modern versions all are about good fortune and optimism. Whatever the influences, expect to see more fruits in fine jewelry for spring/summer 2023 and beyond.

Circa 1700’s 18K gold secret Mon Coeur Avec Le Votre Apple Locket, which translates into My Heart is with yours, is inscribed outside the locket. It is inspired by antique apple lockets that open from the top, reinvented into a modern-day treasure. The interior contains two apple seeds that form to make a heart set against a reflective surface that mirrors the motifs. It is a perfect piece for favorite keepsakes and is finished with a frame that Cohen says, “denotes the bonds we have with those with love.” After the goings on in The Garden Of Eden, much later on in Victorian times, apples began to be associated with love.
