It was a day of front runners, favourites, fast times, fashions, and a first up win for a visiting jockey, all combining to make last Saturday a great day at the races.
The Broome Turf Club was hosting its second meeting for the 2023 season, with a seven-race program.
Most winners were in the front line as heads turned for home, and the judge had an easy time, as they all won convincingly.
And, most winners were either favourites or favoured runners.
Fast times were also the order of the day.
Rogues Point, which had won by five lengths at the previous meeting, proved that was no fluke, when winning the last race in record time.
Visiting Darwin jockey Phillip Crich, who took a harmless tumble earlier in the program, later bounced back to notch his first Broome win.
There were doubles on the day as well.
Karnup trainer Darryn Pateman led in two, and Simone Altieri saluted the judge in races four and seven.
Going through the card, Prince Saiyan, which had won on the opening day, repeated the performance in race one.
Silkinize produced a form reversal from its previous start, to lead all the way in the second.
Favourite Lo Lo Lonhro didn’t let punters down, leading all the way in race three, while Wuhan Warrior having its first Broome start, trounced the opposition with a five-length win in the fourth.
The Daniel Morton stable produced Miss Eugen in race five, which ridden patiently by Cassey Martinan, worked though the field to win by over a length.
They were never going to catch Final Plan in race six.
Darwin Jockey Phillip Clich bounced the gelding to the lead and won by nearly three lengths.
And in the final event, the grey, Rogues Point went straight to the lead and again won effortlessly in race record time, untouched.
Meanwhile perfect weather and fabulous fashions on the field during the afternoon completed a perfect day’s racing at Gantheaume Point.
The next meeting is on Sunday June 25.
