Sydney star Lance Franklin has moved into outright fourth spot on the list of VFL/AFL goalkickers with a 1058th-career goal in his own milestone match against St Kilda.
Franklin lined up for the Swans in his 350th AFL match on Thursday night and sweetened the celebrations with his first goal of the game against the Saints at the SCG.
That major took Franklin past former Geelong and North Melbourne full-forward Doug Wade and into outright fourth place on the list of VFL/AFL career goalkickers.
The four-time Coleman medallist is now only behind Tony Lockett (1360 goals), Gordon Coventry (1299) and Jason Dunstall (1254) among the most prolific goalkickers in VFL/AFL history.
Franklin was made to wait to claim fourth spot as his own with the Swans kept scoreless in the opening term against the Saints.
The 36-year-old kicked his 1058th-career goal in the second term after pulling down a juggling pack mark then slotting the set shot from just inside 50m.
That first goal against the Saints was Franklin’s 478th for the Swans since joining the club ahead of the 2014 season, after booting 580 goals in 182 games with Hawthorn between 2005 and 2013.
Franklin booted his 1000th career goal in round two last year against Geelong, sparking wild scenes as thousands of fans invaded the SCG and flocked to the star forward.
The former Hawks spearhead was also the key figure the previous time fans swarmed the field when he became the last player to reach 100 goals in a season in the final home-and-away round of 2008.
Franklin earlier joined 21 other players to reach 350 VFL/AFL games when he ran out for a 168th time for the Swans.
The eight-time All-Australian also became the fourth Indigenous player, after Shaun Burgoyne, Adam Goodes and Eddie Betts, to reach 350 games.
Franklin has enjoyed playing the Saints in milestone matches at the SCG, slotting nine goals against them in his 200th in 2014 and four majors in his 300th in 2019.
