A police pursuit was terminated a short time before a fatal crash on the Mitchell Highway in Orange on Tuesday morning.
NSW Police updated information about the fatal crash at about 2pm Tuesday (May 30, 2023).
“Officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command attempted to stop a Holden Commodore after it was reported stolen from Queen Street, Blayney, on Thursday 25 May 2023,” NSW Police stated.
“When the vehicle allegedly failed to stop officers initiated a pursuit which was terminated a short time later due to the manner of driving and weather conditions.”

A short time later, emergency services were called to the Mitchell Highway, Orange, following reports of a four-vehicle crash.
On arrival officers found a Holden Commodore, Ford Ranger, small hatchback and bus had collided.
“The driver of the Commodore, a 23-year-old male, died at the scene,” police said.
“The male driver and passenger of the Ford Ranger were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Orange Health Service for treatment of injuries.”

The bus driver was not injured, and there was no passengers on board.
Police have established a crime scene and Crash Investigation Unit are investigating the cause of the crash.
As inquires continue police are urging anyone with dashcam or information about the incident to contact Central West police or Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.

“Just after 7am today (Tuesday May 30, 2023), emergency services were called to the Mitchell Highway at Orange, following reports of a two-vehicle crash,” said NSW Police.

“On arrival, officers from Central West Police District found a sedan and a utility that had collided.
“The male driver of the sedan died at the scene. He has not been formally identified but is believed to be aged in his 20s.”
The male driver and the male passenger of the ute were both taken to Orange Hospital in a stable condition.

Their ages are not known at this time.

Investigations are continuing into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The Orange News Examiner spoke to a worker at the corner of Bathurst Road and Lone Pine Avenue at about 9:30am.

They were letting a few last cars go through to the stretch of road where Bathurst Road becomes the Mitchell Highway, before starting to divert all traffic onto Lone Pine Avenue.
At the corner of the Mitchell Highway and Dairy Creek Road all traffic was being diverted onto Dairy Creek Road.
