Queensland Police are appealing for information after four officers were injured and three cop cars were damaged by an allegedly stolen truck north of Toowoomba.
The Queensland state government has announced a $90-million package to increase police numbers, featuring cash incentives to attract recruits.
The plan includes paying off part of the HECS debt for some university graduates and offering up to $20,000 in relocation costs for police officers from interstate or overseas.
Police attempted to intercept the alleged stolen truck in the Queensland town of Meringandan, north of Toowoomba, at about 1.30pm.
The truck allegedly rammed the police vehicle, with two police officers sustaining “serious injuries” in the incident.
“One has been transported to St Vincent’s Hospital, the other has been airlifted to Princess Alexandra Hospital,” Queensland Police said in a statement.
A short time later the truck allegedly hit another two police cars and came to a stop in Goombungee, a few kilometres from the original incident, with another two police officers sustaining minor injuries.
An adult male was taken into custody at the scene and an investigation into the incident is underway.
