NORMAL, Ill. – Elias Foor earned a pair of top-five throws finishes Friday at the Redbird Track and Field Complex, headlining the opening day for Indiana State at the MVC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Foor picked up all-confernece honors in the javelin with a third-place finish, and also placed fourth in the hammer throw. Justin Miller (javelin), Noah Bolt (hammer throw) and Brooklyn Giertz (javelin) also picked up top-five finishes for the Trees on the opening day of competition.
Indiana State’s multis also had a strong first day, with Mitch Conard currently second in the decathlon and Eva Grace Quinlan and Kamille Gaskin-Griffth both in the top five in the heptathlon.

Scoring for the Sycamores
Sprints/Hurdles
Friday was a fairly light day for the sprints group, with the men’s 200m prelims being the only event contested by this group.
JaVaughn Moore advanced to Sunday’s final in the event with a time of 21.06, his second-fastest wind-legal 200m time of the season. Noah Malone ran a time of 21.29, narrowly missing out on advancing.
Distance
Indiana State’s first points of the weekend came from the distance crew, as Erica Barker opened the meet with a seventh-place finish in the 10,000m. Barker’s time of 37:34.23 earned the Trees two points.
The Sycamores also had three entries in the men’s 1500m prelims, with all three advancing to finals. Ethan Breen (3:56.49), Jason Dworak (3:56.70) and Jackson Krieg (3:56.94) qualified for Sunday’s finals by finishing in the top five of their heat.
Throws
Elias Foor had a big day for the Sycamores in the two men’s throws events contested, scoring 11 points across the hammer throw and javelin. Foor picked up all-conference honors by placing third in the javelin (53.09m/174-02), while earning a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw (58.59m/192-02).
Justin Miller also earned a top-five javelin finish for the Blue and White, coming in fourth in his MVC Championship debut (52.81m/173-03), while Noah Bolt placed fifth in the hammer throw for the Trees (58.47m/191-10).
Brooklyn Giertz had her second-best javelin mark of the season Friday, earning a fifth-place finish in the event with her best throw coming in at 43.32m (142-01). Cloe Clark had a career-best mark in the javelin of 36.48m (119-08), while Josie Hapack was the top Sycamore in the women’s hammer throw with a mark of 43.74m (143-06).
Multis
Indiana State’s multis got off to a strong start Friday, putting the Sycamores in a position to pick up significant points in both the decathlon and heptathlon.
Competing in his first decathlon since the 2021 MVC Outdoor Championships, Mitch Conard is in second place in the event at the halfway point. Conard had a career-best performance in the 100m (11.05) and high jump (1.95m/6-04.75) in a standout first day.
Eva Grace Quinlan and Kamille Gaskin-Griffith both sit in the top five of the heptathlon in third and fourth, respectively. Gaskin-Griffith set personal bests in both the high jump (1.53m/5-00.25) and shot put (10.64m/34-11.00), while Quinlan had strong showings in both the high jump (1.65m/5-05.00) and 100m hurdles (14.91). Chloe Rolen is in 11th after posting top-10 finishes in both the 100m hurdles (15.40) and shot put (9.64m/31-07.50), with three events left to move into a point-scoring position.
