The annual flower basket display in the West Seattle Junction has returned thanks to the West Seattle Junction Association (WSJA) and more than 90 sponsors who paid to make it happen. Executive Director of the WSJA Chris Mackay said that there are 93 baskets sponsored with 97 baskets actually delivered.
They hang on the classic light poles in the junction between Edmunds Street SW and Oregon Street SW.
The plants will be maintained by Tim James who said they are watered twice a week and fertilized monthly. The source of the flowers is new this year. Van Wingerden Greenhouses in Blaine Washington, near the Canadian border is the supplier. They use 50% less water and 40% less fertilizer according to Mackay. She found them last year during conference she attended in Vancouver BC.
The baskets are a mix of style and type of plants. Sweet Potato vine, Petunias,White Vacopa, Calibrachoa, Dusty Miller, and more shared space.
The baskets will hang until mid to late October.
