Several fire departments battled a fast-moving blaze that erupted in a two-family house near the iconic Cider Mill in Endicott.
The fire in the two-story building on South Nanticoke Avenue was reported around 6:45 p.m. Thursday.
Initial reports from the scene indicated everyone was out of the house when the first firefighters arrived.
Flames were seen in the second floor and attic area of the building.
Two Union Volunteer Emergency Squad ambulances stood by at the scene. Medics evaluated two people for possible smoke inhalation.
Nanticoke Avenue was closed between Jennings Street and Union Street while firefighting operations were underway.
The Endicott Fire Department was assisted by units from Endwell, West Corners, Union Center and Vestal. The fire was knocked down after about an hour.
The fire delayed a scheduled 7:30 p.m. performance of a play at the Cider Mill Playhouse. The venue announced the performance would start 30 minutes later.
The Cider Mill itself was closed. It is to open for the season in August.
