Queensland Fire and Emergency Services arrived on scene at 12.40pm on Friday to put out a fire that has engulfed the old Alluna Hostel.
A QFES spokeswoman said five crews were on scene at a property on Hartley Street, Portsmith responding to a call about a fire structure.
“It is a one storey brick building,” she said.
Police were called on scene at 1.15pm.
A Queensland Police Services spokeswoman said all people have been accounted for and that at this point, there were no injuries.
“Traffic at this stage was under control with no road closures,” she said.
A Queensland Ambulance Services spokeswoman confirmed there were no patients but they were on scene on stand by.
The hostel is largely not occupied but has been know to harbour squatters and a handful of people do live at the derelict property.
The Alluna Hostel is a 28 room facility that has been left to languish and decay following a handover of the 16.83 hectare Hartley St land parcel to traditional owners in 2002.
Four blocks containing seven rooms per block, an admin building and a commercial kitchen and mess hall make up the buildings of the former hostel.
Some of the buildings appeared to have been totally destroyed.
