An Echuca-Moama contingent tackled the famed Northern Territory off-roader last Monday, with Moama’s Darcy Arnel returning from the Finke Desert Race as the highest finisher.
Arnel placed 43rd overall in the two-day, multi-terrain bike race from Alice Springs to Aputula (Finke), which drew to a close last Monday.
He ran a time of four hours, 38 minutes, while Peter Arnel came in at a time of 6.34 to wrap up the gruelling desert race.
For Tony Nott, it was a personal-best finish of 121st overall in the 375-rider field that had the 37-year-old from Moama pleased.
“It was pretty rough and dusty but other than that it was great,” Nott said.
“I missed out on a bit of speed because of fitness, but I’m happy with the way it went, it was a good trip.
“I took it pretty easy on the first half just with the dust, then I kept building momentum from there.”
In the car category, Echuca’s Alan Dixon and Zach O’Bree teamed up to finish 61st overall, running the course in a time of 5.20.
King of the Desert Toby Price claimed a ninth consecutive Finke race in the cars, while David Walsh claimed his fourth in a row in the bike section.
