Boulder fought back after an early blitz to edge Kalgoorlie by two points, 16.5 (101) to 15.9 (99), last Saturday to highlight round 10 in the Goldfields Football League’s colts division.
The third-placed Tigers conceded six first-quarter goals and were still 34 points in arrears at the long break before they produced a hard-running second half that yielded 12 goals.
It included 4.1 in the pivotal third quarter that cut the deficit to 23 points before piling on 8.2 in the run home.
Boulder’s barnstorming finish was capped off by Thomas Coughlan and Tyrell Pickett, each with four goals.
Malachi Waters also starred up forward with three goals and Ryan Dickinson booted two for the winners.
Kalahni Vlasich kicked four goals for Kalgoorlie in a losing effort, complemented by three apiece to Jake Tucker and Hurricane Clark.
Boulder improved their record to 3-5 and moved within a game of second spot.
Also last weekend, Railways led at every change against Mines Rovers to win by 10 points, 8.6 (54) to 5.14 (44).
Mines Rovers were within seven points at three-quarter-time, but the efficient last quarter they needed was thwarted by a wasteful 1.4.
Railways retained first place with six wins.
A general bye applies in the colts division this weekend due to the annual Great Southern Carnival in Lake Grace.
In last weekend’s round of reserves matches, Jake Douglas kicked four goals in Mines Rovers’ win over Railways, 14.8 (92) to 8.5 (53).
Craig Mitchell, Josh Lennox and Ben Johnson each booted two while in Railways’ camp Brendan Ryan and Ryan Stubbs were reliable forwards, each with three goals.
Kiall Aitken underpinned Kalgoorlie’s big win over Kambalda, 25.15 (125) to 2.3 (15), with seven goals and Glen Gascoyne bagged four.
Mekiah Scott kicked two goals for Kambalda.
