Earlier this week Pro Football Focus listed the strengths and weaknesses for all 32 NFL teams and determined the Chiefs would benefit from shoring up the wide-receiver position.
As chance would have it, the Chiefs might be in position for an upgrade at receiver after the Cardinals released former All-Pro DeAndre Hopkins.
“Hopkins will undoubtedly be pursued by a number of teams,” wrote Nick Shook of NFL.com. “At 31 years old, the hope will be that the five-time Pro Bowler can still produce at an elite level, as long as he finds the right fit with his new team.
“Given his freedom from a Cardinals team facing a rebuild, Hopkins will begin his search for his next destination.”
Earlier this week, Hopkins said on a podcast there were five quarterbacks he’d like to play with, including the Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes. When the Cardinals were shopping Hopkins, the Chiefs spoke with him, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer reported, so there would seem to be interest between the two sides.
The thought of Hopkins joining the Chiefs makes fans of other NFL teams nervous. Hopkins is a three-time All-Pro who has six seasons with a thousand or more receiving yards.
Here is a sample of what fans were saying about the prospect of Hopkins joining Mahomes and the Chiefs ahead of the 2023 season.
